Landscape for Life is based on the principles of the Sustainable Sites Initiative™ (SITES™), the nation’s first rating system for sustainable landscapes.  SITES™ is an interdisciplinary effort led by the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin, and the United States Botanic Garden in conjunction with a diverse group of stakeholder organizations.

Every home landscape has the potential to help clean air and water, reduce flooding, coolzinnia 1 300x225 - Landscape for Life™ your town, and combat climate change. Yet conventional gardening practices too often work against nature, damaging the environment’s ability to provide these natural benefits that support the health and well-being of you, your family, and  your community.

Join us to learn how to attract beneficial insects and birds, eliminate water problems, build healthy soil, cultivate a safe lawn, reduce maintenance time in your garden, and save money.

Lead Instructors:
Amy Melissa Witt is a certified Landscape for Life instructor.  She is an educator and horticulturist and has been developing, coordinating and providing educational programs and events in southern Maine for many years.  Amy is the founder and director of Earth Walkers.  Prior to Earth Walkers, she was the horticulturist with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Cumberland County.

David Elliott is a certified Landscape for Life instructor, a Master Gardener, a student in the Native Plant and Ecological Horticulture program at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens,  and a Landscape Design instructor.
